A new survey has found great discrepancies in the fees hospitals charge for certain procedures. The survey tracked the cost of 100 of the most common procedures and found huge prices differences not only across the country but between nearby facilities. The survey also found that the increased prices did not result in better care.

Poor Sales of Qsymia Widens Vivus’ First Quarter Losses

Shares of Vivus Inc. plunged in premarket trading Wednesday after the drug developer said it absorbed a $5.8 million charge to write off unsold inventory largely from its initial production of the weight-loss drug Qsymia. The Mountain View, Calif., company started marketing Qsymia last September, after it became the second long-term weight loss drug approved in the United States since 1999.

The work makes clearer who does and does not benefit from taking supplements of omega-3 fatty acids, the good oils found in fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines.
