Chart organized by topic helps pharmacists understand relevant
provisions of new law.
APhA has provided to members a chart of
the pharmacy-relevant provisions in the new health care reform (HCR)
law.
“The chart is very much for people who just want to know
broadly what’s in the bill. It’s an easy way to educate
yourself,” said Allison Wiley, APhA’s Political Action
Manager. “APhA has other resources, but the chart is a nice
condensed version of the topics and sections.”
The 99-page chart lists 19 topics, many of which are APhA’s top
priorities during the regulatory phase of HCR. Subjects include
everything from Medicaid, Medicare and Part D, and medication therapy
management to workforce issues and comparative effectiveness
research.
Clinical topics include hospital-acquired conditions, pain care,
prevention and wellness, quality of care, and transitions of care.
Reform areas that could affect the structure of the health care
system are detailed, including integrative care models; health plan
benefits; and transparency in physician ownership, prescription drug
samples, and pharmacy benefits management.
Management topics are also covered: fraud, waste, and abuse; access
to drug products; value-based purchasing; health information technology;
and antidiscrimination.
