Non-Destructive Inspection System
detects quality of heat seals before failure
The Pti-525 ABUS detects defects in heat seal joints and layers, determines seal integrity in heat seals, characterizes material properties, detects voids in heat sealed layers, detects delaminations and detects foreign materials or inclusions in heat seals. This non-destructive, non-invasive, non-contact system defines the exact location of defects, facilitating upstream equipment diagnostics. The ABUS technology is rapid, being used either off-line or on-line to reduce the sample-to-diagnostic time to quickly correct contamination of the heat sealing tool and non-parallel sealing tool configuration, among other potential problems with the FFS operation. To operate, filled and sealed packages are placed in a direct line between the transducer and the receiver of the Pti-525 ABUS. The ABUS sensor makes either a Linear Scan (L-Scan) or a C-Scan in which the sensor scans the package material or seal along both the X-axis and Y-axis, literally "painting" the image of the seal. Using a special focused transducer that takes up to 160 ultrasonic scans per second, the ABUS sensor moves at a variable programmable rate of up to 10 inches per second. The result of the scan is evaluated as "Pass," "Warn" or "Fail" based on a proprietary algorithm that calculates and monitors average signal strength, minimum and maximum signal strength as well as variation of signal.
