Dear Santa...

Ok - yes - I'm too old to believe in Santa. But that won't stop me from putting together my own wish list.
You see, we are at interesting place in time. Not only is 2009 ending, but the first decade of the new century is also coming to a close. Is there a better time than now to look back at the first 10 years of the '00s, or the "aughts", or whatever clever term historians might use to put a label on this decade, and make a wish list for the next ten years?

In retrospect we should have known 10 years ago, we were in for some "interesting times" as the often-quoted Chinese proverb states, when the 2000 presidential election hung in the balance and was basically decided on the interpretation of what a "hanging chad" is.

So, without further ado, here is my wish list for the next ten years. Some "pie in the sky"- some more down to earth:

• Health and happiness for my family and friends.
Has to be the first one on my list - no apologies for this one.

• Cures and/or better treatments for all types of cancers.
I've seen way too much of this over the last ten years - can we finally eradicate this curse?

• Healthcare coverage that is affordable, accessible and understandable
Who could sift through a 2,000 page document and really understand it - much less vote on it?

• More investment and research into "real" diseases.
Sorry, hair loss and male enhancement products don't count as "real".

• Less stress about the economy, jobs, the environment, etc.
Is this possible? I sure hope so.

• Less hate, fewer wars and more tolerance.
Come on - can't we all get along?

That's it - that's all I'm asking for. I'm not sure if Santa will read this - but I think Santa follows me on Twitter.
