Jury To Resume Deliberations In Drug Pricing Trial

Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:54am
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Jurors are to resume deliberations in the trial of the state of Alabama's lawsuit against generic drug manufacturer Sandoz. Jurors deliberated for about two and a half hours Monday without reaching a verdict. They will resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Montgomery County Circuit Judge Charles Price's courtroom. Earlier Monday, an attorney for the state of Alabama, Jere Beasley, asked jurors to order Sandoz to pay as much as $170 million on the state's claim that its Medicaid program paid too much for prescription drugs for more than a decade. But an attorney for the Germany-based pharmaceutical, Tabor Novak of Montgomery, said no drugs were mispriced and that Sandoz saved the Alabama agency millions by providing less-expensive generic drugs.
