WESTLAKE, Texas (AP) — MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Tuesday it eliminated about 100 jobs to reduce expenses. The company said it cut about 25 percent of its sales representatives and sales management positions and around 20 percent of its corporate staff. MiddleBrook said it expects about $5 million in severance and other costs from the move, which will save an estimated $15 million per year. The reductions leave MiddleBrook with around 225 sales workers and 28 other staff. It had a total of 352 employees as of March 1, with 317 in sales and marketing and 35 other staff. The company said it made the changes based on prescription data for its extended-release antibiotic Moxatag, which it launched in May. MiddleBrook said is maintaining sales coverage of the doctors with the most potential to prescribe the drug.
