Intellipharmaceutics plans Effexor generic
Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. said Friday it filed for marketing approval of a generic version of Pfizer Inc.'s antidepressant, Effexor.
The application will be reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration. Intellipharmaceutics said it will seek a partner to help sell and distribute its generic if it is approved.
U.S. sales of Effexor, or venlafaxine, totaled $592 million in the first quarter. Pfizer acquired the drug in 2009 when it bought competitor Wyeth.
