What consumers should do:
What Health Canada is doing:
Health Canada has requested that Mary Ginseng House recall this product and inform their customers of the potential risks to their health. Should additional products be identified, Health Canada will take appropriate action and keep Canadians informed.
Following receipt of a consumer complaint, Health Canada testing of product samples identified the presence of bacteria, including the presence of Klebsiella oxytoca, Pantoea sp. and Enterobacter cloacae.
These bacteria do not present a significant risk to healthy Canadians, as their bodies are able to successfully fight off an infection.
However, for Canadians whose immune system has been weakened by other serious illnesses, these bacteria can cause a serious infection of the lower intestine causing cramps and watery, bloody diarrhoea. They may also cause lung infections, urinary tract infections, or if introduced into a wound, infections of the skin, soft tissues, organs, or blood poisoning.
