CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Drug developer Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Thursday that its partner Almirall SA has asked European Union regulators to approve its experimental drug linaclotide as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome.
Almirall is based in Spain and holds the rights to market linaclotide in Europe. Ironwood and its U.S. partner, Forest Laboratories Inc., asked the Food and Drug Administration to approve linaclotide in the U.S. on Aug. 9. Astellas Pharma of Japan holds the rights to the drug in Japan and several other Asian countries.
Shares of Ironwood rose 6 cents to $10.72 on Thursday.
