RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Boehringer Ingelheim is building a $65 million research and development center at its western Connecticut site.
The News Times of Danbury reports (http://bit.ly/uoz4oH ) that the German drug maker broke ground in the Ridgefield-Danbury area Monday, a few months after it began construction of a $42.5 million safety assessment building.
James Baxter, Boehringer's U.S. senior vice president for development, says the research and development center will not add many permanent jobs. But he says the 25 employees of the company's research and development facility will remain in Ridgefield.
Baxter says other work at Boehringer that depends on the research center also will remain. He says 100 related jobs are probably involved.
The new building will replace one that has been added to over the years. Construction is expected to end in 2014.
