NEW YORK (AP) — A French doctor who cooperated in a New York-based probe of insider trading in pharmaceutical stocks will not have to serve any more prison time
Federal Judge George Daniels in Manhattan credited Yves Benhamou's (Eeve BEHN-ah-moo's) cooperation Wednesday as he sentenced him to time served — 24 days.
The 51-year-old Paris-based expert in hepatitis treatment told Daniels he could not find the words to express how sorry he was for his role.
Benhamou had pleaded guilty to charges that he provided secrets in 2007 and 2008 about clinical drug trials to a hedge fund portfolio manager who then dodged $30 million in losses.
He also was required to forfeit more than $52,000 and was ordered to pay nearly $6 million in restitution.
