CINCINNATI (AP) — A prominent class-action attorney has stepped down from the University of Cincinnati board of trustees after being disbarred in Kentucky.

The school said Wednesday night that Stanley Chesley had resigned ahead of a special meeting called for Thursday to urge his ouster.

The Kentucky Supreme Court ordered Chesley disbarred in March for his actions in the settlement of a $200 million lawsuit involving the makers of the diet drug fen-phen.

Last week, trustees asked the UC alumnus and longtime school benefactor to resign as trustee to "preserve the integrity of the university."

The Cincinnati attorney didn't respond to requests for comment Wednesday. Chesley has been a pioneer in class-action lawsuits and been dubbed the "Master of Disaster" in the legal community.
